Craig Overton Commits to Somerset with New Three-Year Contract

Somerset Cricket Club has announced that Craig Overton has extended his contract, pledging to remain with the club until the end of the 2028 season. The 31-year-old all-rounder had a contract set to expire at the conclusion of 2026, but his new deal ensures his commitment for an additional two years.

Since making his debut in April 2012 against Lancashire, Overton has been a vital player for Somerset. Over 288 matches across all formats, he has amassed more than 4,800 runs, including a highest score of 138. With the ball, he has taken 637 wickets, boasting best figures of seven for 57.

Overton’s contributions have been integral to Somerset’s successes in recent years. He played a key role in the club’s Royal London One Day Cup triumph in 2019 and was instrumental in their Vitality Blast victories in 2023 and 2025. Beyond his club achievements, Overton has also represented England in eight Test matches and seven One Day Internationals.

Reflecting on his contract extension, Overton shared, “Playing here was always a dream for me. Extending my time with Somerset means a lot—it’s a close-knit team, and I’m excited to help achieve more success in the coming years. Our focus remains on winning matches and building towards that elusive Championship title.”

Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, expressed his enthusiasm about retaining Overton, stating, “Craig is a true leader both on and off the field. His performances consistently impact games with bat and ball. His professionalism and competitive spirit make him invaluable, and we are thrilled he will continue to influence Somerset’s success.”

Overton’s journey began with the Somerset Academy at age 16 after impressing during his time at West Buckland School, North Devon CC, and through Devon’s performance programmes. His steady rise through Devon’s age-group teams culminated in him becoming a cornerstone of Somerset cricket.
