Somerset Cricket Club has announced that Craig Overton has signed a contract extension, committing his future to the club until the end of the 2028 season. The 31-year-old all-rounder’s previous deal was set to expire in 2026, but he has now pledged to continue contributing to Somerset’s success for at least two more years.
Since making his debut in April 2012 against Lancashire, Overton has been a cornerstone of Somerset’s lineup. Over 288 matches across all formats, he has amassed over 4,800 runs, including a personal best score of 138, and claimed 637 wickets, with a best bowling figure of seven for 57. His impact extends beyond statistics, having been a vital part of Somerset’s Royal London One Day Cup victory in 2019 and the Vitality Blast triumphs in 2023 and 2025.
Overton also boasts international experience, having represented England in eight Test matches and seven One Day Internationals. His dedication to Somerset runs deep, reflecting his journey from joining the club’s Academy at age 16 to becoming a senior figure in the squad.

Expressing his pride in the new deal, Overton stated, “Playing for Somerset has always been a dream of mine. This club means everything to me, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together in the coming years. As a senior player, I’m committed to guiding our younger bowlers and helping the team win more games.”
He added, “Winning trophies never gets old. We’ve had success in recent finals, but the County Championship remains the ultimate goal, and we’re building steadily towards that.”
Somerset’s Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry, praised Overton’s professionalism and influence: “Craig is a leader on and off the field, consistently performing at the highest level. His skill with bat and ball, combined with his work ethic and competitive spirit, make him invaluable to our team. We’re thrilled he’ll continue to shape Somerset’s future.”
Overton’s cricket journey began at West Buckland School and North Devon Cricket Club, progressing through Devon’s youth county teams before joining Somerset’s Academy. His development reflects a strong connection to the region and the club that has shaped his professional career.
