Recent heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in the South West, impacting both humans and animals. In a particularly remarkable incident, a group of cows was forced to navigate the overflow of the River Torridge in Devon on April 16. The water levels reached nearly 11 feet, leaving the cows with no choice but to wade and swim across Beam Weir near Great Torrington.
Despite the challenging conditions, the cows appeared undeterred, calmly traversing the muddy torrents to reach the safety of the opposite bank. Some of the smaller calves accompanying the herd seemed to enjoy the adventure, frolicking in the water and taking an enthusiastic swim.
Footage captured by an eyewitness depicted the swift currents of the river at Beam Aqueduct, providing a dramatic visual of the challenging crossing the cows undertook. Local resident Paul Hogan, who witnessed the scene, described the dramatic situation, underscoring the impact of the River Torridge bursting its banks following the continuous rain.
