‘Coward’ Who Left Woman Fearing for Her Life Jailed

A violent attacker who terrorized a woman in Trowbridge has been sentenced to prison. Jason Povey, 36, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm during an incident on February 13. The court handed down a two-year jail sentence along with a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim, who was known to Povey.

Wiltshire Police reported that Povey turned up uninvited at the woman’s home. When she didn’t answer the door, he forcibly entered by kicking down a fence. Concerned that Povey was intoxicated, the woman attempted to escort him to a relative’s house by driving him there. Instead, Povey violently attacked her inside the vehicle, repeatedly punching her face.

Despite escaping the car, the victim was violently pursued. Povey grabbed her, pulled her to the ground, and tried to stomp on her head. She narrowly avoided severe injury by moving just in time, but Povey continued to strike her face and body multiple times. The victim eventually managed to flee to safety.

Local crime investigator Ben Hillier described the attack as “horrific and totally unacceptable,” labeling Povey a coward for the brutal assault that left the woman fearing for her life and suffering painful facial injuries. Hillier expressed relief that the victim could escape before the attack escalated further and welcomed the sentence and restraining order as crucial for her future protection.
