A couple from Taunton West, Somerset, were left horrified when they discovered their lunch cheese crawling with maggots. Cato and Sean Cooper purchased a £3 pack of Président French Brie from a Morrisons Daily store on May 14, intending it as a treat for their meal.
However, when Sean went to prepare lunch, he found the cheese infested with live maggots burrowing inside. Disturbing footage reveals more than a dozen bugs moving across the surface of what should have been a simple, tasty snack.
Cato, a recruitment consultant, described the discovery as “disgusting” and immediately threw the cheese away. She contacted Morrisons via their live chat service to report the issue, only to be met with what she called an “insulting” offer of a £3 voucher as compensation. Feeling their concerns were not taken seriously, the couple vowed never to buy their Brie from Morrisons again.

Cato recounted the incident: “Sean stopped by Morrisons Daily to get some lunch, but when I opened the Brie, I thought ‘what the heck? That is disgusting.’ It looked like the cheese had been left unrefrigerated, maybe left out on the shelf. It was gross and could have made us very ill.”
In response to her outreach on Facebook messaging, Cato felt she was speaking to a bot rather than a real person, which only added to her frustration. She said, “We didn’t want just the money back; we wanted them to take this seriously. The £3 refund felt like a joke.”
A Morrisons spokesperson acknowledged the situation: “We have been in regular contact with the customer to apologise for the delay while our franchise partner conducted an investigation. We are confident this was an isolated incident and have offered a further gesture of goodwill.”
Président Cheese has been contacted for comment.
