Countryfile’s Adam Henson: From Famous Farming Family to Wife’s Courageous Cancer Battle

Adam Henson has been a familiar and trusted face on British television since he joined Countryfile in 2001. As one of the programme’s longstanding presenters, alongside names like Helen Skelton and Tom Heap, Adam has become synonymous with the show’s celebration of rural life and farming.

Born and raised on Bemborough Farm in Gloucestershire, Adam’s passion for agriculture runs deep. Educated at Cheltenham College and Seale-Hayne Agricultural College, where he earned an HND in Agriculture, he has carried forward the family tradition by managing Bemborough Farm alongside his business partner, Duncan Andrews. Together, they took on the lease in 1998, following adventures working on farms in Australia and New Zealand.

Adam also operates the Cotswold Farm Park, founded by his father, Joe Henson MBE, who was a pioneering farmer and television presenter known for establishing the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. The park draws about 70,000 visitors annually, contributing to countryside education and conservation.

Farming is truly in Adam’s bloodline. His grandfather, Leslie Henson, was a noted comedian and actor, while his uncle Nicky Henson found fame as an actor. His cousin Christian Henson is a composer. Despite this diverse artistic background, Adam has remained dedicated to the land and rural life, sharing his expertise with viewers through numerous television projects, radio shows, and six published books.

Off-screen, Adam’s life is marked by his strong family bonds. He and his wife Charlotte, known as Charlie, have been together for nearly three decades and have two children, Alfie and Ella. They married in a private ceremony during the COVID-19 pandemic, a decision prompted by Charlie’s 2020 diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The couple’s journey through illness has been open and heartfelt, with Charlie revealing that the scare reshaped their outlook on life and deepened their commitment.

Following surgery and treatment, Charlie has shared hopeful news about her recovery, bringing relief to their family. Reflecting on their relationship, Charlie expressed that while they never felt the need to marry before, the health crisis made their bond—and declaring it publicly—an urgent and meaningful step.

Adam Henson continues to enrich Countryfile and other projects with his deep-rooted knowledge and genuine passion for farming, offering viewers a glimpse into both the joys and challenges of rural life. Countryfile airs Sundays at 7:00 PM on BBC One.
