Councillor Steps Down to Focus on Cancer Treatment, Byelection Announced

Deborah Collins, a Liberal Democrat councillor for the Widcombe and Lyncombe ward in Bath and North East Somerset, has announced her resignation from the council to concentrate on her cancer treatment.

Since being elected in May 2023, Ms. Collins has been a dedicated representative, but following her recent diagnosis, she has chosen to prioritize her health. Expressing gratitude, she commended the Royal United Hospital’s screening programme and the high standard of care she has received.

“I’m very grateful for the screening programme and the excellent care at the RUH, which I’m confident will lead to my full recovery from cancer,” Ms. Collins said. “Sadly, I am not yet well enough to manage the responsibilities of being a councillor, so I have made the difficult decision to stand down early and focus on my health.”
