Somerset proudly shines in this year’s King’s New Year Honours list, with numerous individuals celebrated for their remarkable achievements across sport, culture, public service, education, and community work.
Among the distinguished recipients is Sarah Massey, Managing Director of the record-breaking Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 held in England. Under her visionary leadership, the Red Roses clinched their first World Cup title since 2014. The tournament set new attendance and viewership records, energizing the future of women’s rugby. Massey’s efforts were pivotal in delivering a spectacular event that elevated the sport’s profile nationally and internationally, earning accolades from both Sport England and World Rugby.
Also honoured is Somerset-born comedian and actor Bill Bailey, who received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for his outstanding services to entertainment. Educated in Bath, Bailey has been a beloved figure on television and stage for years. Notably, he became the oldest winner of Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 at age 55, further cementing his place in British entertainment.
