An urgent emergency operation was launched on Wednesday evening after a climber fell from the cliff face at Avon Gorge. The injured climber was swiftly transported to hospital for treatment.
Rescue teams specializing in rope maneuvers were dispatched to reach the injured climber along with four other climbers who became stranded on the side of the cliff. Police, firefighters, and paramedics arrived at the scene near Portway Road in the Shirehampton area of Bristol at approximately 5:20 pm on August 6.
Details regarding the nature and severity of the injuries have not been released by emergency services.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson stated, “At 5:17 pm on Wednesday 6 August, rope rescue teams responded to an incident near the Portway, Bristol, involving a fall during climbing. Our crews collaborated with police and ambulance services to rescue four individuals from the cliff face. One person was taken to hospital. Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service were supported by the South Wales Fire & Rescue Service.”
A witness described the scene as a “massive emergency services response” following the injury reported on Portway.
