A classic car enthusiast has been left heartbroken after his restored 1973 green Austin Mini pick-up was stolen from an industrial unit in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. The theft occurred between 12.30am and 7.30am on 15 July.
Alongside the distinctive Mini, police reported that “tools of significant value” were also taken from the premises. In addition, photographic equipment was stolen from a neighbouring unit, and windows were broken at two other units, although entries were not gained there.
The owner, who has devoted many years to restoring the vehicle, expressed deep devastation. His family stated that the theft was not about financial loss but the heartbreak of losing a cherished project and hobby that reflected his passion for classic Minis.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the incidents were not believed to be targeted attacks. Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the burglaries or has information about the whereabouts of the stolen Mini or associated items to come forward.
“We do not believe these burglaries are targeted and would appeal to witnesses, anybody with information about the incident and the whereabouts of the Mini, or those with CCTV or dashcam footage at around the time of the incident, to contact us.”
The police statement urged anyone with information to call 101 quoting reference number 5226196733, or to complete the online appeals form to assist in the investigation.
