Children Rescued from Hot Car While Mother Shopped

A distressing incident occurred in Helston, where two young children were found locked inside a car on a sunny afternoon. Concerned locals immediately notified the police who promptly arrived at a car park on The Parade at around 4.10pm on Wednesday, April 30.

Witnesses reported that the parent had left the children unattended in the vehicle while she went shopping in the town. A group of locals took it upon themselves to forcefully open the car to let the children out, as detailed in a social media post. Subsequently, the kids were comforted by two women until the authorities arrived.

Thankfully, the Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that the children were unharmed during the distressing ordeal. Upon the mother’s return, she was given a cautionary talk regarding the incident.

In an official statement, the police mentioned, “We were called to reports of a concern for welfare for two young children in a locked car, in a car park on The Parade, Helston, at around 4.10pm on Wednesday 30 April. Officers attended. The children were not harmed. The parent returned a short time later and was given words of advice.”

A member of the public, posting in the Helston Facebook group, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in responding to the incident. This included the individuals who intervened to free the kids, the pregnant woman who alerted the police, and the women who provided comfort to the children. The post highlighted the heartening community response to the alarming situation.
