Child injured after deliberate tampering of park swing

A young child was injured after falling from a swing in the Old Showfield children’s park, which was found to have been deliberately sabotaged. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 18 August, when both fixing bolts securing the swing to its wooden beam had been removed, causing the swing to come away while the child was using it.

Frome Town Council conducted an inspection following the incident and confirmed that the bolts had likely been intentionally taken out. Council representatives noted that the play area undergoes weekly safety checks, with the most recent inspection having taken place on Monday, just a day before the event, indicating the tampering occurred after this routine check.

Park rangers have since removed the swing from the site to prevent further incidents, and the council is currently examining ways to secure the fixings more effectively. In a statement, the council assured the public that the swing will only be reinstalled once they are fully confident in its safety.
