Child Hurt After Swing in Old Showfield Park Tampered With

A young child was injured after falling from a swing at the children’s park in the Old Showfield area, where it was discovered that the swing had been deliberately sabotaged. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 18 August, when both fixing bolts securing the swing to a wooden beam had been removed, causing it to come away while the child was playing.

Frome Town Council confirmed that after being alerted to the incident, they inspected the swing and concluded the bolts had been deliberately taken out. The council emphasised that the play area is inspected weekly, with the last check carried out on Monday prior to the event. This suggests the tampering took place within a short window of time.

In response, park rangers have temporarily removed the swing as the council investigates ways to enhance the security of its fixings to prevent similar occurrences. The swing will be reinstalled once officials are confident it is safe for children to use again.
