Child Abuser Sentenced to 22 Years Despite Lack of Remorse

Stefon Winter, 73, a former resident of Goatacre near Calne, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after being convicted of multiple historic child sex offences. Winter showed no remorse during sentencing at Swindon Crown Court on July 31, 2024.

Winter was found guilty earlier this year of two counts of indecent assault by penetration against a five-year-old girl in the 1980s. Later trials confirmed his guilt for further crimes including two counts of buggery and three indecent assaults on a 13-year-old boy, all committed between 1987 and 1989.

Detective Constable Chris McLoughlin emphasized the significance of the convictions: “This case demonstrates that justice can be served even decades after abuse has occurred. Despite Winter’s lack of remorse and many years of freedom, accountability has been achieved.”

He continued, “The survivors have shown incredible courage in standing up for themselves and for other victims. Our specialist officers are committed to supporting anyone affected, regardless of how much time has passed.”

The judge, Honour Judge Townsend, highlighted Winter’s failure to acknowledge his crimes. McLoughlin praised the survivors’ resilience and expressed hope that the verdict offers them some closure and a chance to move forward with their lives.
