Chew Magna residents are invited to a drop-in session to learn about a vital £100,000 gas network upgrade starting this July. Wales & West Utilities will host the event at Chew Magna Village Hall on Silver Street on Wednesday, July 16, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. This is a valuable chance for locals to view the project plans and speak directly with the engineers managing the work.
The upgrade will commence on Monday, July 21, focusing on the Silver Street area, with an expected completion date of Friday, September 12—barring any unexpected difficulties. This essential project aims to maintain a safe, reliable gas supply for both homes and businesses in Chew Magna.
Simon Lee, project manager at Wales & West Utilities, emphasized the importance of community engagement: “We encourage local residents to attend the drop-in event to better understand the scope of the upgrade. While working in busy areas can be disruptive, it is necessary to ensure that gas continues to flow safely and efficiently.”

He added, “Our gas engineers will be on site throughout the process, prioritizing safety and minimizing disruption. The gas network, though mostly underground, is a crucial part of daily life—whether heating your home, cooking meals, or taking a hot bath. Ensuring a reliable supply is our top priority.”
Looking to the future, the upgrade also prepares the network to handle new energy sources like hydrogen and biomethane, supporting regional sustainability goals.
The upgrade is coordinated with Bath & North East Somerset Council, and appropriate traffic management measures will be in place during the work.
