Chef’s 25K Run to Raise Vital Funds for Gaza Hunger Relief

Horrifying images of starving children in Gaza have stirred many hearts worldwide, but few take action. One such individual is Alexi Jeanrenaud, a chef from Bruton, Somerset, who has transformed his concern into a powerful fundraising effort.

Moved by the dire situation reported from Palestine, Alexi has committed to running a 25-kilometer race on Sunday, August 10. His route stretches from Berkley near Frome to Bruton, aiming to raise money for the World Food Programme (WFP), the leading global organization combating hunger.

Initially setting a modest target of £500, Alexi was overwhelmed as the donations quickly surpassed that amount, exceeding £1,100 in just hours. Reflecting on his motivation, he said, “I was appalled by the conditions in Gaza, the stripping away of basic human rights. As a chef, food is fundamental to me—it’s a basic right everyone deserves.”

Though he has run sporadically for years, this challenge marks Alexi’s longest run yet. The immense local support has been inspiring. “Many people feel helpless like I did, unsure how to help. This fundraiser shows what we can achieve together,” he added.

Alexi recently returned from Lisbon to assist in opening Briar, a Michelin Guide-listed farm-to-table restaurant in Bruton, championing West Country food. Now, he is channeling his passion into supporting the UN’s food relief efforts for those facing starvation in Gaza.

He appeals for further sponsorship and donations, emphasizing the urgent need: “With families struggling daily just to survive, every step I take is a step toward hope.”

Donors have rallied behind him with messages of encouragement. Alec Searight remarked, “Well done mate! Smashing that target too.” Elise, Rory & Spencer cheered, “Go uncle leklek!”

The World Food Programme reports that over 320,000 children under five in Gaza are at risk of acute malnutrition. Essential nutrition services have collapsed, leaving many without access to safe water, adequate feeding, or basic sustenance. One in three people now go days without eating.

Alexi has created a JustGiving page to facilitate donations for his cause. Every contribution brings vital support to families in extreme need.
