Cheese and Grain Hints at ‘Massive Show’ Ahead of Glastonbury Festival

The Cheese and Grain, a beloved venue in Frome, has long captured the attention of music fans worldwide by hosting secret performances from some of the biggest names in the industry. As anticipation builds, the venue has now teased another “massive show,” sparking excitement and speculation ahead of this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Historically, the venue has been a secret rehearsal and warm-up spot for legendary acts. In 2017, the Foo Fighters delivered a surprise gig, followed by Sir Paul McCartney’s intimate performance in 2022 before headlining at Glastonbury. Just last year, Coldplay used the Cheese and Grain for rehearsals before their Pyramid Stage appearance.

On Facebook, the venue announced: “From the Pyramid Stage to the Cheese and Grain Stage. Join us this Wednesday at 10am as we announce ANOTHER massive show coming very soon to the venue. Make sure to set your alarms so you don’t miss the details to GoGo.”

The announcement sparked a flurry of guesses from fans. Some predicted acts like The 1975 or Wolf Alice, while others hoped for another Foo Fighters surprise set or even a performance by The Prodigy. With The 1975 scheduled to headline the Friday night at Glastonbury but yet to play a gig this year, the speculation is reaching a fever pitch.

More than just a stage for famous acts, the Cheese and Grain is deeply embedded in the local community. It employs around 60 local people, works closely with local food suppliers and electricians, and serves as an essential cultural hub. Despite challenges such as the pandemic and economic hardships, the venue experienced a record-breaking year in 2023, with over 200,000 visitors and its highest ticket sales to date.

Looking to the future, the venue has unveiled ambitious £1.6 million plans to build a new facility featuring rehearsal spaces, editing suites, and wheelchair-accessible washrooms. This new addition, located between the Canoe Club and the rear of the Cheese and Grain building, is designed to provide affordable, accessible resources for musicians, including those starting out in the industry, without the need for a dedicated house engineer or producer.

With its strong community roots and commitment to supporting artists, the Cheese and Grain continues to be a vital part of the UK’s live music scene—and fans eagerly await details of the upcoming secret show.
