Lympsham, a ‘lovely’ village in Somerset known for its close proximity to popular coastal towns, is preparing for significant growth with plans for new homes finally ready to proceed. Situated just inland from Brean and Weston-super-Mare, Lympsham is set to welcome up to 40 new houses.
The development at Beavers Lodge Farm on Lympsham Road was initially proposed in July 2019 by Strongvox Homes Ltd, along with partners J. D. W. Puddy & A. E. Reader. Their original application sought to construct 50 homes, but following three years of discussions with planning officers, the plans were revised to 40 homes. Sedgemoor District Council’s development committee approved the revised plan narrowly in July 2022.
After a further four years of negotiations, Somerset Council has now signed off the legal agreements, unlocking the path for construction to start, potentially before the end of 2024.

The site lies on the eastern fringe of Lympsham close to the A370 Bridgwater Road, the route connecting Weston-super-Mare to the A38, which leads to Bridgwater and Cheddar. Lympsham is frequently praised by estate agents for its desirability as a village offering a strong community feel alongside convenient access to amenities.
According to Rightmove data over the past year, average house prices in the village have remained reasonable at around £270,000, based on three sales all involving terraced homes. Local estate agents reinforce the village’s appeal; Greenslade Taylor Hunt, marketing a two-bedroom bungalow priced at £375,000, describe the village as offering “a wonderful balance between rural calm and everyday convenience,” with amenities including a café, sports pavilion, village shop, countryside walks, and easy routes to Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea.
Similarly, Ashcombe Estate Agents highlight the village’s excellent local amenities and transport links, currently marketing a three-bedroom semi-detached property in need of renovation for £340,000.
Lympsham Parish Council portrays the village as “a lovely village with a village green at its heart,” noting that its population has remained relatively stable since the 1800s but increased to approximately 900 due to two recent small developments. With the addition of this new housing estate, the population is expected to increase beyond 1,000.
Access to the new development will be via a single vehicular entrance from Lympsham Road opposite Coppice Cottage, alongside two pedestrian access points, including one connecting to the sports club and primary school. Somerset Council’s legal agreements specify that no homes may be occupied until both pedestrian pathways are completed.
The development will feature a range of properties from one-bedroom maisonettes to four-bedroom houses, with 16 out of the 40 homes designated as local needs affordable housing. These affordable homes will be available through social rent and shared ownership schemes, prioritising individuals with strong connections to the village, such as family ties or employment within the parish.
A spokesperson for Focus On Design, representing the Taunton-based developer, explained, “Our vision is to create a high-quality environment that respects Lympsham’s character while addressing the need for diverse and affordable housing. The architecture, materials, and detailing will maintain consistency throughout the scheme, ensuring a vibrant and cohesive public realm.” The development will also include landscaping, green spaces, and sustainable drainage systems.
Strongvox Homes has been active in the region, working on the Cricketers Farm site in Nether Stowey and sharing plans for a 40-home development on Honiton Road in Trull.
Construction in Lympsham is anticipated to commence soon, with the first properties expected to become available to buyers by summer 2027.
