A picturesque village in Somerset, situated just inland from popular coastal spots Brean and Weston-super-Mare, is about to see a significant addition to its housing stock. Lympsham, known for its strong community spirit and rural charm, will gain up to 40 new homes after years of careful planning and negotiation.
Plans originally submitted in July 2019 by Strongvox Homes Ltd, J. D. W. Puddy, and A. E. Reader proposed 50 houses at Beavers Lodge Farm on Lympsham Road. After three years of discussion with planning officers, these plans were revised to 40 homes and narrowly approved by Sedgemoor District Council’s development committee in July 2022.
Following an additional four years of discussions, the legal agreements necessary for the project have now been finalised and signed by Somerset Council. This approval clears the way for construction to begin before the end of this year.

Located at the eastern edge of Lympsham near the A370 Bridgwater Road, which links Weston-super-Mare to the A38 leading toward Bridgwater and Cheddar, the site is perfectly positioned for residents wanting both rural tranquility and convenient transport connections.
Real estate agents often describe Lympsham as a sought-after village with a welcoming atmosphere. Despite its appeal, average property prices during the past year have remained reasonable, at around £270,000-based on a limited number of sales, mainly terraced homes.
Greeneslade Taylor Hunt, currently marketing a two-bedroom bungalow in the village for £375,000, highlights Lympsham’s attractive community feel and proximity to local amenities such as a café, sports pavilion, village shop, countryside walks, and easy routes to the coast and nearby towns. Similarly, Ashcombe Estate Agents, with a three-bedroom semi-detached house listed for £340,000, praises the village’s excellent access to amenities and transport links.
Lympsham Parish Council describes the village as “a lovely place with a village green at its heart,” noting that its population has remained relatively stable since the 1800s but has recently grown to approximately 900 residents following two small housing developments. The addition of the new estate is set to push the population beyond the 1,000 mark.
Access to the new site will be via a single vehicular entrance from Lympsham Road opposite Coppice Cottage, complemented by two pedestrian access points, including one providing a direct route to the village sports club and primary school. Under the terms of the newly signed agreements, no homes will be occupied until both pedestrian links are in place.
The development will offer a mix of properties, ranging from one-bedroom maisonettes to four-bedroom family homes. Sixteen of the 40 homes will be designated as “local needs affordable homes,” available as either social rent or shared ownership. These affordable units will be prioritised for individuals with strong local connections, such as family ties or employment within the parish.
A spokesperson for Focus On Design, representing the Taunton-based developer, emphasised the goal of creating a high-quality residential environment that respects Lympsham’s character. The development will include thoughtfully designed architecture, consistent materials, landscaping, green spaces, and sustainable drainage systems to foster a vibrant and cohesive community.
Strongvox Homes has recent experience in the region, having developed the Cricketers Farm site in Nether Stowey near the Quantock Hills, as well as proposing new housing on protected green wedge land in Trull near Taunton.
Construction on the Lympsham homes is expected to start in the coming months, with the first properties potentially becoming available to buyers by summer 2027, marking a new chapter in the village’s growth and community life.
