Fans of All Creatures Great and Small were thrilled earlier this month when Samuel West returned to television—this time not as an actor but as a nature enthusiast. Alongside his longtime friend Adrian Edmondson, West has been exploring some of Britain’s most beautiful nature reserves on the birdwatching adventure series Sam & Ade Go Birding.
The three-part series is coming to an end this week with the final episode airing April 28. In this concluding installment, the duo visits the scenic Somerset Levels, where they hope to spot the elusive bittern, often described as Britain’s loudest and most secretive bird.
While it remains uncertain whether Channel 5 will commission a second season of Sam & Ade Go Birding, the series has already earned considerable praise from viewers and critics alike. Samuel West expressed his gratitude for the positive feedback on social media, writing: “Thanks for all your kind comments about the series so far. It was a joy to make, and it’s good to know so many people are finding it fun and useful. Positive thoughts for continued life.”

As the birdwatching series concludes, Channel 5 has revealed its next offering to fill the time slot. Starting Tuesday, May 5, the channel will air a new season of Reuben: Life in the Dales. This series follows 22-year-old Reuben as he tackles farming challenges alongside his friends, family, and girlfriend Jess.
The upcoming episodes highlight summer on the farm, including building a new sheep pen, facing the unexpected difficulties of sinking a gate post, and Reuben’s younger brothers, Miles and Sidney, striving to pass a demanding sheep shearing course under their father Clive’s watchful eye. The family also plans an unforgettable 70th birthday party for Clive at England’s highest-altitude pub, complete with balloons and plenty of celebrations.
Samuel West’s Sam & Ade Go Birding can be watched on Channel 5 until April 28, with Reuben: Life in the Dales making its return on Tuesday, May 5 at 8 pm.
