Channel 4’s Handcuffed: Diverse Contestants Bonded by Chains in New Social Experiment

Channel 4 introduces Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing, a gripping new social experiment hosted by Jonathan Ross. The show puts 18 strangers into pairs, literally handcuffing them together as they compete for a £100,000 cash prize.

The concept is simple yet intense: nine duos are chained together 24/7, living just inches apart while navigating daily life. They can choose to uncuff at any time, but doing so means immediate elimination. Only the last pair remaining wins it all. The competition kicks off in a live studio, with pairs learning their partners’ identities only after being locked together.

The contestants represent a broad spectrum of British life, from a 79-year-old aristocrat to a youthful model, and from a vegan school bus driver to a millionaire businessman. None have met before, and the unique format is designed to foster unexpected conversations across social divides.

Among the standout participants is Sir Benjamin Slade, the 7th Baronet of Maunsel from Somerset, who confronts challenges such as sleep apnoea and the realities of class differences. His partner Morag, a 64-year-old school bus driver also from Somerset, describes becoming emotional early in the experiment.

Other noteworthy contestants include Jo, a Manchester-based plus-size fashion brand owner on the autistic spectrum; Reuben, a confident property developer from Portsmouth; Bambi, a London model; and Anthony, a businessman from Suffolk. Each shares unique insights into the difficulties and surprises of being physically connected to a stranger 24 hours a day.

The pairs must work through everything from basic personal routines like showering and sleeping to deeper emotional and ideological differences. For many, the experience reveals hidden resilience, challenges preconceived judgments, and encourages genuine understanding.

Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing premieres on Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday, March 2, promising a compelling mix of tension, empathy, and human connection.
