As the festive season approaches, Somerset residents can expect temporary changes to their recycling and rubbish collection dates. These alterations will be in effect over the Christmas and New Year period, necessitating awareness to prevent missed collections.
SOMERSET COUNCIL:
Recycling and rubbish collections will undergo temporary adjustments over the festive period. For those with a collection day falling on a Monday or Tuesday, there will be no change in schedule this Christmas.

Additionally, all 16 recycling sites will operate under their usual winter hours during the holidays, with exceptions for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Dedicated areas for pre-sorting wrapping paper will be available at each recycling site, and it’s essential for residents to adhere to recycling guidelines.
Garden waste collections will be paused from December 25 and will resume on January 8. Subscribers to the garden waste service can leave their trees, free from decorations, in the waste bins for collection, provided they are no taller than 6ft.
BATH AND NORTH EAST SOMERSET:
The council has distributed informational leaflets to households, notifying them of the adjusted recycling and rubbish collection dates, along with essential recycling instructions. Residents can also access specific information for their postcode on the council’s website.
This year, changes will impact collections from December 25 to January 11. A calendar with revised dates is available for download on the council’s website. Additionally, garden waste collections will recommence on January 12, and residents can visit the recycling centers to dispose of their garden waste in the interim.
It’s essential for residents to note that only plain brown wrapping paper will be accepted in recycling, as most Christmas wrapping paper contains non-recyclable additives like glitter.
NORTH SOMERSET:
Recycling and waste collections will be altered during the festive season due to crews not working on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. To facilitate the catch-up, collections will occur on Sunday, December 29. Normal collection schedules will resume from January 6.
Residents are advised to check specific collection dates on the council’s official website.
In conclusion, it’s crucial for Somerset residents to stay informed about the modified recycling and rubbish collection dates during the festive season to ensure a seamless waste management process.
