Celebrating a Mother’s Impact in Tennis

Kay Gilbert, a dedicated mother from Bath, has been honored with the LTA President’s Award at the prestigious LTA Tennis Awards ceremony, held at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. Gilbert, a mother of three aspiring tennis players, established the Tennis Parents' Community on Facebook to provide support and guidance for parents navigating the world of tennis.

The community, now boasting 2,500 members, has facilitated a network where parents can uplift and assist each other, transcending the competitive nature often associated with the sport. Gilbert expressed her deep gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the significance of the award not only for herself but for all the parents who have contributed to the group.

The LTA Tennis Awards, presented by Lexus, serve as a platform to spotlight and celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions within the British tennis community. Launched in 2015, the awards recognize the invaluable efforts of volunteers, coaches, officials, and players in advancing the sport.

The recipients, chosen from over 2,000 nominations across 25 categories, have been commended for their exceptional contributions to tennis in 2024.

Gilbert’s initiative has not only increased parental involvement in tennis but has also led to many members becoming volunteers, coaches, and officials, giving back to the community they have found through the Tennis Parents' Community.

LTA President Sandi Procter expressed the significance of the awards as a celebration of the individuals and venues shaping the tennis landscape. Recognizing the selfless devotion of volunteers, officials, and coaches, Procter emphasized the pivotal role of supporters in inspiring individuals to embrace tennis, irrespective of their background or skill level.
