Diners at the Toby Carvery in Brockworth, Gloucester experienced a frightening incident on Sunday, September 28, when a large portion of the ceiling collapsed into the restaurant’s dining area. The sudden event unfolded around 6:45pm, prompting an emergency response with fire crews, paramedics, and police rushing to the scene.
Shocking footage from the moment shows plasterboard debris scattered across tables and floors, and a substantial gap where the ceiling once was. Customers were caught off guard, with some startled diners seen quickly evacuating the premises. Amid the chaos, a child’s voice is heard asking, “What happened?” as families hurriedly leave the restaurant.
The dramatic video, which has been widely shared on social media and viewed over 90,000 times, captures the distress of the patrons. One table’s four untouched roast dinners remain, symbolizing the abrupt disruption to what should have been a routine meal.

Social media responses reflected concern and sympathy for those affected. One commenter wrote, “Hope everyone’s okay – what a nightmare,” while another expressed worry for the child, “I hope everyone is okay especially the little one crying!”
The Brockworth Toby Carvery, located on Shurdington Road along the A46, had recently undergone a £500,000 refurbishment completed earlier this year after four months of construction. Toby Carvery management is addressing the incident and hopes to reopen the venue soon.
