A resident was safely rescued from a house fire that broke out near the Somerset border in Silton, just off the A303. The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received the emergency call on Thursday, May 7, at 4:27 pm, after neighbors spotted smoke pouring from the windows.
Crew members from Gillingham and Wincanton fire stations responded swiftly. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the occupant was still inside and promptly rescued the individual. Paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) assessed the person at the scene, who was thankfully unharmed.
After the property was thoroughly ventilated, the occupant was allowed to return safely inside. Later that evening, Wincanton crews assisted with a large commercial fire in Frome, returning home after 1:30 am.
