In the early hours of Thursday, April 10, a car transporter carrying multiple vehicles burst into flames near a Shell petrol station in Cornwall. The fire, which occurred at Carland Cross just after midnight, completely engulfed the cab of the truck and three vehicles closest to it. One vehicle was left hanging precariously over the front of the cab.
Upon receiving the emergency call, four fire crews from Perranporth, St Dennis, Truro, and St Columb, as well as a water carrier from Helston, rushed to the scene off the A30 at around 12:40am. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus swiftly deployed two main jets and two monitors to bring the blaze under control, as per reports from Cornwall Live.
Dramatic images of the firefighting efforts were shared on Facebook by St Dennis Community Fire Station, capturing massive plumes of smoke billowing into the night sky. The station’s Facebook post described the response, “This morning crews from Perranporth Community Fire Station, St. Columb Community Fire Station, Newquay Community Fire Station, ourselves, and a water carrier from Helston Community Fire Station, were mobilised to a large vehicle transporter on fire at Carland Cross, Mitchell. Multiple firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA), using hose reel jets (HRJs) alongside main jets and ground monitors, worked to extinguish the fire.”
