Next month, villagers from Peasedown St John, Wellow, Shoscombe, and Foxcote will gather to honour and celebrate the memories of their loved ones through a series of heartfelt remembrance services.
On Sunday, November 2, four Anglican churches—St John’s in Peasedown, St Julian’s in Wellow and Shoscombe, and St James’ in Foxcote—will host memorial services that include reading aloud the names of the deceased, lighting candles in their memory, and offering quiet moments for prayer and reflection.
Led by Revd Matthew Street, who oversees all four parishes within the ‘St J’s Group,’ these services are designed to provide comfort and solace during times of grief. “Bereavement is deeply painful,” Revd Street explains. “These services give thanks to God for the lives of our loved ones and offer a chance for healing amid sorrow. The words of Christ, ‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,’ hold true and bring hope.”

Over the years, attendees have found these services to be a valuable source of support and consolation during loss. Those wishing to have the name of a loved one mentioned during the service are encouraged to submit names online by Friday, October 31.
“If your loved one’s name isn’t yet on the list, please reach out,” Revd Street urges.
