Butlin’s Introduces Adapted Shows and Character Meets for Guests with Additional Needs

To better accommodate guests with additional needs, Butlin’s is unveiling specially adapted versions of its popular live shows and character meet-and-greets. The new “relaxed” performances, debuting at the Minehead resort on Justin Fletcher Tots breaks from Monday, April 28, are designed for guests who may benefit from a more sensory-friendly environment, including children, young people, and adults with autism, learning disabilities, or communication needs.

Shows such as Snow White and Her Magnificent Friends, Peppa Pig’s Circus Celebration, and Skyline Gang’s Beside The Sea will feature softer sounds and increased lighting, aiming to create a more soothing setting for the audience. The cast will also provide introductions and storylines at the beginning of each show to provide reassurance for the guests.

The relaxed sessions are open to anyone who might find them helpful, with flexibility around movement and noise during performances, and Butlin’s staff will be on hand to assist and ensure guests feel comfortable.

In addition to the theatre shows, relaxed character appearances will take place in the Skyline Pavilion from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the Justin Fletcher Tots breaks. There will be no loud music or queues, and characters such as Peppa Pig, Billy Bear, and the Skyline Gang will be free to roam, allowing guests to engage at their own pace.

These features form part of a wider offering on the Tots breaks, which include exclusive activities, performances by children’s TV favorite Justin Fletcher, and access to facilities such as the inclusive SKYPARK playground. The attraction, built with accessibility in mind, includes six zones with sensory features and a calming Sound Demo playing 18 relaxing sounds.

All these amenities are included in the package, alongside entry to Splash Waterworld, unlimited fairground rides, and multiple playgrounds and soft play areas.

Mike Godolphin, entertainment director at Butlin’s, expressed excitement about the new additions, emphasizing the company’s commitment to ensuring all guests feel welcome and comfortable while enjoying the entertainment offered.
