A man has been sentenced to prison after breaking into a Somerset home while the occupant slept. Gary Conquer, 54, pleaded guilty to burglary following CCTV footage that captured him entering the property in Abbey Manor Park overnight between October 8 and 9.
Conquer was arrested a few weeks later and charged with burglary. On Friday, January 23, he was sentenced to 876 days in prison—just over two years—at Taunton Crown Court.
Avon and Somerset Police noted that a prior bicycle theft was also taken into consideration during sentencing. PC Jim Card, the lead officer on the case, stated, “Conquer forced his way into the house late at night and stole a rucksack containing the victim’s wallet while they were asleep.”
