Buffy The Vampire Slayer Actor Anthony Head Dies Aged 72

Anthony Head, the British actor renowned for his iconic roles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died peacefully at the age of 72 due to complications from pneumonia. His daughters, Emily and Daisy Head, shared a heartfelt statement announcing the loss of their extraordinary father.

Head gained worldwide recognition as Rupert Giles, the wise and steadfast librarian in the cult supernatural series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which aired from 1997 to 2003. His portrayal left a lasting impression on fans across the globe. Alongside his extensive television career, Head recently captivated audiences as Rupert Mannion, the former Richmond FC owner in the acclaimed football comedy Ted Lasso.

In their statement, Emily and Daisy expressed their deep sorrow but emphasized the profound legacy left by their father: “It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many.” They also requested privacy during this difficult time.

Anthony Head’s career spanned several decades and included memorable performances as the Prime Minister in Little Britain, Uther Pendragon in Merlin, and appearances in acclaimed series such as Motherland, Silent Witness, Spooks, Doctor Who, and My Family. He also delved into film, notably starring in Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Beyond acting, Head was recognized for his distinctive baritone voice, famously featuring as part of the Gold Blend couple in the beloved Nescafé ads throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. His vocal talents extended to the stage and recording studio, including work on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode album and various solo projects.

Anthony Head’s personal life intertwined with his passion for animal welfare, sharing a long-term partnership with the late Sarah Fisher, a dedicated animal campaigner. Their daughters, both actresses, have achieved success in their own right—Emily with her cherished role in The Inbetweeners, and Daisy with appearances in Harlots and Shadow And Bone.

His brother, Murray Head, is also celebrated for his acting and musical career, notably the song “One Night in Bangkok” from the musical Chess.
