Brothers surprise parents with memorial bench honoring their late sibling

On Mother’s Day, brothers Jack Weir, 40, and George Weir, 38, surprised their parents by arranging for a memorial bench to be installed in honor of their late brother, Benjamin.

The bench, located at Ninesprings Country Park in Yeovil, Somerset, holds special significance as it is the resting place of Benjamin’s ashes, which their parents, Robert and Jane Weir, 69 and 68 respectively, had long wished to memorialize.

With heartfelt determination, the brothers successfully appealed to the council, securing approval to install a new metal bench at the chosen location. Although they personally funded the £868 cost of the bench, the emotional impact bestowed upon their parents made it all worth it.

For the Weir family, Ninesprings has always been a cherished place, evoking childhood memories and holding a special place in their collective heart. The bench, strategically placed near a children’s park and the peaceful wooded area where Benjamin’s ashes were scattered, ensures that his memory can be celebrated and cherished by all visitors.

The family anticipates that the bench will become a meaningful gathering place. Already, Jane, on the day following the surprise unveiling, enjoyed her first cup of coffee and heartfelt reminiscence with her lifelong friend, a testament to the bench’s enduring impact on their lives.

The brothers’ initiative has given their parents a place to remember Benjamin, preserving the beautiful memories and ensuring that his legacy lives on.
