British Airways Warns: Don’t Pack Loose Razor Blades in Your Carry-On

Packing for a trip can be stressful, especially when it comes to navigating airline luggage restrictions. As many prepare to escape Britain’s chilly weather for warmer destinations, British Airways has issued a clear warning about one common item you should never pack in your cabin bag: loose razor blades.

While airports prohibit various items in carry-on luggage, some bans are less obvious than others. A recent Reddit thread revealed the issue when a passenger admitted they almost missed their flight after accidentally packing a safety razor blade in their hand luggage.

British Airways clarifies on their website: “Any item with a sharp point or cutting edge that could cause serious injury must be packed safely in your checked baggage in the hold. These items are not permitted in the cabin either on your person or in your hand/cabin baggage.”

This includes loose razor blades, cut-throat razors, and safety razor blades. In contrast, disposable razors, cartridge razors, and electric razors are allowed in cabin bags as long as blades remain enclosed or attached.

Travelers shared tips on the Reddit thread, with some opting for electric razors to avoid packing multiple grooming items, while others said they always check luggage when traveling for longer than a few days to evade restrictions.

The core rule is simple: sharp or exposed blades must not be taken onboard as carry-on. To ensure a smooth security experience, pack any sharp blades inside your checked baggage. Double-check your airline’s specific rules before travelling, as regulations can vary slightly.

By following these guidelines, you can avoid delays and travel with peace of mind. When in doubt, safely stow your razors in checked luggage or choose travel-friendly disposables.
