The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol has been named a finalist for Studio of the Year at the Global Production Awards, held at the Cannes Film Festival. The Studio’s solar-powered facility and impressive portfolio of productions have led to its nomination, putting the city’s thriving screen scene in the international spotlight.
Hosted by Screen International, the Global Production Awards, established in 2023, celebrates excellence and sustainability in global film and television production, locations, and studio facilities. The Studio of the Year category recognizes professionalism, creativity, customer service, innovation, and community impact, emphasizing customer appeal, environmental sustainability, and contributions to the local area.
Operated by Bristol City Council, The Bottle Yard Studios is the largest film and television production facility in the West of England and plays a major role in Bristol’s UNESCO City of Film status. The TBY2 site, launched in 2022, features sound-proofed shooting spaces and a 1MW rooftop solar array, believed to be the largest community-owned photovoltaic rooftop system in the UK.

The studio’s 11 stages support large-scale productions, with facilities including a 5,000 sq ft green screen studio, production offices, and on-site specialist service companies. Recent productions shot at the studio include popular titles like Rivals, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, The Road Trip, The Famous Five, The Outlaws, Alex Rider, and The Killing Kind.
Laura Aviles, head of film at Bristol City Council, commended the Studio’s nomination for the prestigious award, underscoring its positive impact on Bristol’s global profile and the city’s film and TV production industry.
Competing for the top studio title are Cinespace Studios in Canada, NFI Studios in Hungary, Shinfield Studios in the UK, and Vancouver Film Studios, also in Canada.
