Set to take place at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, May 19, the awards, organized by Screen International, aim to honor excellence and sustainability in global film and television production. Emphasizing environmental sustainability, community impact, and customer appeal, the Studio of the Year accolade recognizes facilities that excel in professionalism, creativity, and customer service.
Led by Laura Aviles, the head of film at Bristol City Council, the studio’s inclusion on the shortlist follows its previous recognition with the Sustainable Initiative Award in 2023 for its TBY2 solar rooftop and its contribution to Bristol winning the City of Film Award in 2024. This nomination not only acknowledges the studio’s accomplishments but also spotlights Bristol’s burgeoning global presence in the film and TV production industry.

The competition for the top studio title includes Cinespace Studios in Canada, NFI Studios in Hungary, Shinfield Studios in the UK, and Vancouver Film Studios in Canada. The Bottle Yard Studios, managed by Bristol City Council, is a key player in Bristol’s UNESCO City of Film status and boasts the largest film and television production facility in the West of England.
The studio’s TBY2 site, launched in 2022, features sound-proofed shooting spaces and an impressive 1MW rooftop solar array supported by the Bristol Energy Cooperative. Offering expansive shooting areas, including a 5,000 sq ft green screen studio and over 20 on-site specialist service companies, the studio has been utilized for a diverse range of productions, including popular titles such as Rivals (Disney+), Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light (BBC), and Alex Rider (Amazon).
