Bristol Airport Launches New Direct Flights to Istanbul, 2023’s Most Visited City

Bristol Airport has expanded its destination portfolio by introducing new direct flights to Istanbul, 2023’s most visited city. This exciting addition offers travellers from Bristol and surrounding areas a seamless gateway to one of the world’s most captivating cities.

Istanbul, where East meets West, boasts an array of iconic landmarks such as the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the vibrant Grand Bazaar. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history and culture by exploring Sultanahmet’s historic streets, cruising along the scenic Bosphorus Strait, and sampling authentic Turkish cuisine at local eateries.

Flights from Bristol operate into two major airports. EasyJet currently runs services to Istanbul Airport (IST) on the European side, conveniently positioned for central city access. Starting in July, Pegasus Airlines will introduce thrice-weekly flights to Sabiha Göçken Airport (SAW) on the Asian side, giving travellers flexible options to experience both sides of this transcontinental city.

TripAdvisor highlights Istanbul’s diverse neighbourhoods, from the historic Beyoğlu with its 19th-century European charm to the sacred sites of Sultanahmet. For those interested in shopping and nightlife, destinations like Nişantaşı and Kadıköy offer chic boutiques, cafes, and vibrant bars.

Beyond its lively streets, Istanbul is rich in cultural landmarks and museums. Must-see sites include Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia), Dolmabahçe Palace, Rumeli Fortress, and the enigmatic Basilica Cistern—all reflecting the city’s fascinating and layered history.

Visitors frequently praise Istanbul’s dynamic blend of old and new. One traveller remarked, “Istanbul is a magnificent city… full of beauty, history, spectacular architecture, amazing restaurants, and warm, honest people.” Another noted the city’s remarkable diversity of experiences, from sightseeing and shopping to boat trips and cultural explorations.

For those considering travel this summer, Skyscanner lists one-way fares starting from around £82 with easyJet and approximately £90 with Pegasus Airlines. With June temperatures averaging a pleasant 27°C, now is a great time to plan your trip. Booking direct flights is recommended to avoid higher prices associated with indirect routes.

Bristol Airport’s new link to Istanbul invites travellers to explore a city of unparalleled cultural richness, historic grandeur, and vibrant modern life—all just a flight away.
