Bristol Airport is set to transform its Drop and Go car park by implementing a cashless payment system starting Monday, May 12. This major update aims to enhance convenience for the airport’s estimated 12 million annual passengers by allowing seamless card and contactless payments, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
The Drop and Go car park, positioned adjacent to the terminal building, will now operate with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology, eliminating the need for tickets. Drivers can simply approach the exit barrier and pay electronically, speeding up the process and easing traffic flow.
To assist those unfamiliar with the new system, Bristol Airport staff will be on hand to provide guidance during the initial phase. While Drop and Go moves to cashless payments, other parking areas such as Short Stay, Pick Up, and the multi-storey car park will continue to accept cash, with payment machines conveniently located near their exits.

Rupert Lawrie, Commercial Director at Bristol Airport, emphasized the benefits: “By moving away from cash payments in Drop and Go, it should mean customers spend the minimum amount of time in the car park and can exit promptly, ensuring traffic flow continues to move smoothly.”
In addition to this change, Bristol Airport is progressing with a £60 million upgrade set for completion this summer, which includes a new Public Transport Interchange and a second multi-storey car park. The Drop and Go facility will be relocated to this new interchange, expanding the bus and coach bays from five to sixteen and featuring eight exit lanes with cashless payment systems. This development will establish one of the largest coach and bus interchanges in the region, greatly improving access and traffic management.
These enhancements form part of Bristol Airport’s ongoing commitment to modernization and growth, designed to support the needs of millions of passengers each year.
