Bridgwater Carnival Weather Forecast: Prepare for Showers and Winds This Saturday

The Bridgwater Carnival is set to return this weekend, drawing thousands of visitors to the Somerset town to enjoy its spectacular displays. However, following heavy rain linked to the remnants of Hurricane Melissa, attendees are advised to prepare for unsettled weather conditions throughout the event.

The Met Office predicts a wet and windy Friday, October 31, as the effects of Hurricane Melissa continue to influence the UK’s weather. Although the hurricane itself will not make landfall in the UK, its weather front is expected to bring persistent rain and strong winds, especially affecting coastal areas.

On Friday, Bridgwater will experience intermittent showers throughout the day. The morning should remain largely dry, but by early afternoon, showers arriving from the west will bring periods of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. These showers are forecasted to be brief but intense and will shift eastwards as the day progresses.

Visitors arriving for evening festivities should see a dry window between 3pm and 6pm, ideal for daytime activities and securing spots for the evening light show. However, showers are expected to return by 8:30pm, with heavier rain predicted around 10pm.

Despite the rain, the carnival’s dazzling displays will proceed, though a waterproof coat is highly recommended to stay comfortable while waiting for the procession. The Met Office has described the outlook as “unsettled” and advises festival-goers to be ready for wet and windy conditions over the weekend.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree explained, “Late Sunday into early Monday, a low-pressure system, including remnants of ex-Hurricane Melissa, will move across the far northwest of the UK. This typical autumn system will bring milder air and further spells of rain, especially over western hills. While the precise path of this system remains uncertain, it is expected to usher in more unsettled weather into next week.”

With variable conditions expected, visitors to the Bridgwater Carnival are encouraged to plan accordingly to enjoy the event safely and comfortably.
