Arts Council England has once again recognised the significant impact of Bridgwater Carnival on the local community by awarding a grant of £18,291 to support the organisation’s upcoming activities.
In 2025, the carnival’s primary focus will be on engaging young people from the surrounding area and encouraging their active participation in Bridgwater’s world-famous event. The traditional Carnival Day entertainment programme, held in the town centre for many years, will be reimagined as a Music and Dance Festival showcasing the talents of youth dance troupes, choirs, and solo performers alongside seasoned artistes. Spread across four distinct locations, the Festival promises a diverse array of entertainment that the entire family can enjoy. The programme will feature live music, street theatre, children’s shows, marching bands, and dance, offering something for everyone.
Education remains a cornerstone of Bridgwater Carnival’s community efforts. Over recent years, the grant has supported a thriving outreach programme delivered to local schools. This year’s initiative continues that mission, aiming to involve children in carnival activities while helping them develop valuable skills and deepen their understanding of carnival traditions. The programme is thoughtfully aligned with the standard educational curriculum, ensuring that children can learn in an engaging and meaningful way.

Between September and November, hundreds of local students will take part in designing, constructing, and performing for the carnival. Activities will include literacy, craft, dance, and creative workshops—skills that benefit both their personal growth and potential future careers, as well as their carnival involvement.
Dave Creedy, President of Bridgwater Carnival, expressed his gratitude: “We are thrilled that Arts Council England has once again recognised the vital role we play in nurturing talent and skills among young people in our community. Their support motivates us to continue inspiring children through creative and rewarding experiences, securing the future of our remarkable event for generations to come.”
