Bridgwater Carnival Announces Audition Winners, Showcasing Exceptional Local Talent

The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival concerts are gearing up for an exciting autumn season, spotlighting a remarkable lineup of local performers chosen from a competitive audition process.

Twelve front-of-curtain acts will captivate audiences over the Carnival’s popular fortnight-long run at the Town Hall. This year’s selection blends returning favorites with promising newcomers, all vetted by a robust panel of 40 judges. Each act had just five minutes to impress during an intense evening of auditions.

The selected performers include Phoebe Weaver, Starstruck, Charlotte Couch, Chantelle Lake, the duo Lianne and Rachel, Fox King Dance Academy, Lianne Vessier, Sammy and Evie, Elysia Harmony, Dulcie Rossiter, The Vixens, and Holly Marshall. Florence and Evie, along with Samantha Francis, have been named reserves.

Female talent shone brightly throughout the event, with Sedgemoor FM’s Bill Bevan serving as the evening’s host and the sole male presence on stage. Entertainment director Sarah Humphrey commended the high caliber of all participants, describing the night as “a great show” and encouraging those who didn’t make the cut to audition again next year.

For many performers, the selection marks a significant achievement. Tamzynn Williamson, principal of the Fox King Dance Academy, expressed the joy of performing on such a prestigious platform. “We dance every day. This is the ultimate – the chance to dance on stage for two weeks,” she said.

Twelve-year-old Holly Marshall, making her concert debut, shared her excitement: “I can’t really believe it. I’m so happy I got through. It’s the first time I’ve done this.”

Dulcie Rossiter, returning from last year’s concert, reflected on the strong competition: “I’m shocked. There were so many good people auditioning tonight. I’m really excited.”

Anne Middleton, the concerts coordinator, praised the overall talent pool, calling it a true testament to Bridgwater’s enduring carnival tradition. “This year, performers have once again excelled. The smiles on the judges’ faces said it all. I thank every act for their hard work and determination. Their performances are crucial in making the concerts a continuous stream of entertainment.”

The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival concerts will run from Monday, September 29 to Saturday, October 11 at Bridgwater Town Hall. Tickets can be purchased at the Carnival Centre on High Street or online.
