Breast Cancer Patient to Walk 10k in Gratitude

Marie Gower, a breast cancer patient from Winterslow, is set to participate in a 10k walk as a gesture of thanks to the Stars Appeal charity. Diagnosed in September 2024, Marie, along with her husband Trevor, will join the Walk for Wards event at Wilton House on Sunday, July 6. This event aims to raise funds for the Salisbury Hospital charity, which has been instrumental in Marie’s care at the Pembroke Cancer Unit.

The Stars Appeal plays a pivotal role in supporting cancer patients by providing funding for state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment. In addition, it offers various amenities to enhance the hospital experience, such as complimentary hot and cold beverages, snacks during chemotherapy sessions, and access to an in-house aromatherapist.

Marie, 44, expressed the overwhelming emotions she experienced during her first chemotherapy treatment, highlighting the incredible support she received from the staff and the Stars Appeal Aromatherapist. Describing the impact of the charity on her and her husband, she emphasized the significant difference it has made in their journey through her cancer treatment.

Moreover, the Stars Appeal extends its assistance by facilitating complimentary headwear, private swimming sessions, and wellness programs for patients. It also contributes to the enhancement of furnishings and the upkeep of Salisbury’s dedicated Breast Unit.

In acknowledgment of the invaluable support she has received during this challenging period, Marie is determined to participate in the walk to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Her husband’s unwavering support throughout her ordeal has inspired her to give back and make a difference through this event.
