Bradford-on-Avon GP Surgery Temporarily Closes After Emergency Worker Assault

A disturbing incident at the Bradford-on-Avon Health Centre in Wiltshire led to the temporary closure of the GP surgery on Tuesday, March 17. Police were called just after 6pm to reports of a man causing damage to both the surgery and the adjoining pharmacy.

Aaron Dean James, 37, of Bradford-on-Avon, has since admitted to multiple offences including affray, two counts of assault by beating, assault of an emergency worker, criminal damage, and trespass on a railway. Following his guilty plea, James has been remanded in custody and is set for sentencing on April 17 at Salisbury Crown Court, according to Wiltshire Police.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed the sequence of events: “Police responded promptly to reports of damage and assault at Bradford-on-Avon Health Centre. The individual involved has pleaded guilty to several charges and will face sentencing next month.”

In response to the incident, the surgery announced on its Facebook page that it would remain closed on Wednesday, March 18, to repair the damage caused. All face-to-face appointments were shifted to telephone consultations, with staff proactively contacting patients to inform them of the temporary changes.

The practice stated, “Due to damage caused during the incident, the Health Centre will be closed tomorrow. We are working to reopen as soon as possible on Thursday, March 19, and thank patients for their understanding.”
