Brad Hall: The Bobsleigh Pilot Rewriting History and Making Team GB Medal Contenders

Brad Hall is the man who ended an 84-year medal drought and shattered British bobsleigh records. Now, based at the University of Bath, the 35-year-old pilot from Crawley is set to lead Team GB as the most successful British men’s bobsleigh pilot ever.

At the recent kitting-out day at the University of Bath, there was a palpable quiet confidence in the men’s bobsleigh squad, centered around Hall. He has transformed Great Britain from winter underdogs into world-class contenders.

Heading into his third Winter Olympics at Milano-Cortina 2026, Hall isn’t just aiming to compete—he intends to complete his journey and secure the elusive Olympic medal.

Hall’s sporting path is a classic story of personal transformation. Growing up in West Sussex, he was often “up to no good” and frequently in trouble at school. Rugby and athletics provided the focus he needed. A gifted decathlete holding a national record and ranking in the UK’s top five for discus, Hall was discovered by a talent programme at Brunel University. After briefly trying skeleton, he found his true passion as a bobsleigh pilot.

Now based at the University of Bath’s renowned Sports Training Village, Hall’s record is staggering. In 2023, he led his team to Britain’s first World Championship 4-man medal since 1939—a silver in St Moritz. That same year, he secured Britain’s first European 4-man title, marking an incredible resurgence.

Hall’s accolades:

· World Championship Silver (4-man, 2023)

· World Championship Bronze (4-man, 2025)

· European Champion (4-man, 2023)

· European Championship Bronze (2-man, 2025 & 2026)

· 30 World Cup Medals — the most ever for a British male pilot

The journey to 2026 hasn’t been without challenges. Hall underwent back surgery in 2023 and endured a season plagued by injuries to himself and his crew. Despite that, “Team Hall” concluded the 2025/26 World Cup as the best non-German team, finishing 4th overall. Most recently, Hall and teammate Taylor Lawrence won European bronze in St Moritz, proving they remain a force on the world stage.

“We know we’re good enough to win a medal,” Hall said ahead of the Games. “All we have to do is go out there and do it. It would be recognition for all the hard work we’ve put in.”

Hall leads a tight-knit crew including Olympians Greg Cackett, Taylor Lawrence, and Olympic debutant Leon Greenwood. The team shares a brotherly bond off the ice—a connection they believe gives them an edge over better-funded German rivals.

As pilot of both two-man and four-man sleds, Hall’s role is critical—from choosing the fastest runners to steering through 19 high-speed corners. Crawley’s “Bobsleigh Brad” is ready to lead Team GB onto the Olympic podium.
