A 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of nine-year-old Aria Thorpe, who was tragically stabbed to death in Weston-super-Mare. The boy, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, was remanded in custody ahead of his court appearance on Wednesday, December 17.
Emergency services responded to a call at an address on Lime Close shortly before 6:10 pm on Monday, December 15. The suspect was apprehended a short time later in Worle.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that while formal identification is pending, the preliminary post-mortem examination revealed that Aria died from a single stab wound. The boy is scheduled to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court today.

Superintendent Jen Appleford stated, “Our investigation has progressed rapidly since the incident. The 15-year-old charged with murder is a local resident of Weston-super-Mare and will appear in court later today.”
She added, “This is an incredibly difficult time for Aria’s family, who continue to receive our support and updates on the investigation. Words cannot fully express the trauma they have endured over the past 36 hours, and we strongly respect their request for privacy.”
Appleford acknowledged the profound shock and grief felt throughout the community due to the tragic loss of such a young life. Authorities are collaborating closely with partner agencies and local schools to provide support to those affected.
She also expressed gratitude to residents for their patience during police inquiries. “Our work at the scene will continue over the coming days. Anyone with concerns should speak to the officers stationed nearby, who are ready to assist,” said Appleford.
