Boy, 4, Seriously Injured After Being Thrown by Motorbike on Pavement

A four-year-old boy from Somerset, Alfie, sustained a serious brain injury after being struck and hurled into the air by a motorbike while walking with his father on a pavement.

The harrowing incident occurred on December 13, 2025, as Alfie and his father, Troy Weir, 24, were heading to meet Alfie’s mother, Alanis Bishop, at her workplace in Yeovil. According to Alanis, Alfie was hit by the motorbike, sent flying backwards, and suffered multiple injuries upon impact with the ground.

Emergency paramedics treated Alfie on Stiby Road before he was rushed to Yeovil District Hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with a brain bleed and a compound fracture to his skull. He spent 24 distressing hours in hospital and has since developed a strong fear of medical visits, refusing to see doctors.

The trauma has profoundly affected Alfie’s everyday life. His mother reports he clings tightly to his parents’ clothes on walks and is “petrified of being hit by a bike,” showing heightened anxiety when outside. Alfie was unable to resume school with his classmates at the start of the new year. Upon returning on January 7, he was placed on a reduced timetable and excused from playtime and physical education. An assembly was held to explain his absence, but the disruption to his routine has made school challenging, particularly as Alfie shows signs of Autism and ADHD.

Despite receiving a bike for Christmas, Alfie is too anxious to ride it beyond their home. He has become noticeably quieter and more reserved outdoors. Alanis also notes new behaviors, such as Alfie urging her to be cautious while crossing roads during her night shifts.

Alanis reported the incident to Avon and Somerset Police, who confirmed an ongoing investigation. A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and is currently on bail with strict conditions until June.

A police spokesperson stated: “A teenager remains on police bail while officers investigate a collision in which a boy aged four suffered a serious head injury. The motorbike mounted the pavement and failed to stop after the collision.” Authorities continue to seek witnesses and encourage anyone with information to contact them.

Alfie’s family hopes the investigation will bring justice and raise awareness about pedestrian safety and the dangers of reckless driving on pavements.
