Students at Lift Broadlands School in Keynsham have come together to honour the memory of Mikey Roynon, a 16-year-old boy fatally stabbed at a birthday party in Bath in June 2023. Mikey, from Kingswood, Bristol, lost his life in a tragic knife attack that shocked the community.
Following the incident, Shane Cunningham was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2024. Two other teenagers, Leo Knight and Cartel Bushnell, originally found guilty of manslaughter, had those convictions overturned last year. Both admitted to possession of a bladed article and remain convicted on these charges.
In a heartfelt tribute to Mikey, Year 10 pupils raised £1,000 for Mikey’s World, a charity founded by Mikey’s mother, Hayley Ryall. The organization is dedicated to educating young people about the dangers of knife crime. In addition to the donation, the school received an emergency bleed kit to help in critical situations.

Hayley Ryall expressed her gratitude for the students’ support: “It was a real pleasure to be nominated by Lift Broadlands. The students’ dedication to Mikey’s World made me incredibly proud. They have also supported the Avon and Somerset Bleed Kit Partnership by allowing us to place a bleed kit outside the school. The students are now planning how to use the rest of the prize money to place more bleed kits throughout the community.”
The donation was awarded as part of the First Give social action programme, where students researched local community needs, chose charities to support, and delivered impactful presentations to raise awareness.
Laura Stone, Principal of Lift Broadlands School, praised the students: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 10 pupils for their enthusiasm and commitment to the First Give project. Their teamwork and creativity have made a real difference, and the legacy they are building in the community is admirable.”
