A body was discovered during the search for Sgt. Alex Cairnie, the missing soldier who vanished after leaving Tidworth Camp in Wiltshire on Sunday, July 6. The 30-year-old sergeant from the Queen’s Royal Hussars regiment was reported missing, prompting an extensive search operation.
Wiltshire Police, alongside military personnel, deployed drones and dogs to scour the surrounding countryside in hopes of finding him. On Tuesday, July 8, around 6 p.m., Amesbury Police announced the discovery of a body near Warren Hill.
While formal identification is still pending, the body is believed to be that of Sgt. Cairnie, and his next of kin have been informed. The police expressed their deepest condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with them at this tragic time.”

Detective Inspector Mark Kent commented, “Our thoughts are very much with the family and loved ones of Alex during this extremely difficult time. I would also like to thank everyone involved in the search efforts.”
He added that there are no indications of suspicious circumstances, and a file will be prepared for the coroner to review.
