Body Found Floating in River Avon Near Bath’s Historic Bridge

A police investigation is underway following the recovery of a body from the River Avon in Bath on Sunday evening, March 8.

Emergency services responded to reports of a body floating near Kensington Meadows and the Grade II-listed Cleveland Bridge. Around 7 p.m., two firefighters bravely plunged into the freezing river water to retrieve the deceased, who was then handed over to paramedics waiting nearby.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service firefighters were also seen swimming near the weir by Pulteney Bridge to assist in recovering the body.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed the discovery and stated that the death is currently being treated as unexplained but is not considered suspicious at this time. The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
