Blurry CCTV Footage Sparks Public Jokes in Taunton Motorbike Theft Appeal

Police in Taunton have issued a public appeal to help identify two suspects caught on CCTV stealing a motorbike, but the poor quality of the footage has drawn widespread ridicule from the community.

The West Somerset and Taunton Neighbourhood Policing team posted on Facebook requesting assistance in recognizing the individuals linked to a motorbike theft in the Staplegrove area. The incident occurred between 11pm on Saturday, February 21, and 5:15am on Sunday, February 22, at a residence in Showell Park.

The stolen vehicle—a red and black Lexmoto motorcycle—was recovered near Milton Road, along with its cover. Police describe the suspects as two males aged 16 to 20. One is depicted wearing a grey hooded jumper, black jacket, black jogging bottoms with a white logo on the thigh, and a face covering. No detailed description has yet been provided for the second male.

Despite conducting CCTV and house-to-house enquiries and maintaining contact with the victim, the investigation relies heavily on public assistance. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage or information about the suspects to come forward.

However, the appeal has been met with skepticism and humor online due to the extremely blurry and pixelated nature of the CCTV still, making identification difficult. Comments ranged from disbelief that any person can be seen at all, to humorous guesses likening the figure to fictional characters like Batman.

While the blurred images challenge the investigation, authorities remain hopeful that additional information from the community will help solve the case.
