In a heartfelt announcement, Park Pets, a beloved independent pet shop in Bath, has confirmed it will close permanently after failing to finalize a sale with a prospective new owner. The shop, nestled in the bustling Moorland Road shopping area, will open for the last time tomorrow, Wednesday, September 24.
The owners shared the news on Facebook last week: “Well, the rumours are true. We are unfortunately closing down. We had sold the business and hoped it would continue as a pet shop, but the potential buyer was unable to agree on a contract with the agent. So, sadly, we will be closing the shop.”
Despite the closure, Park Pets invites the community to visit one last time and take advantage of their half-price sale (with some exclusions). Reflecting on their journey, the owners expressed gratitude: “Thank you for your support over the past four years; we couldn’t have done it without you. It’s a great way to go out on a high, having won Best Independent Pet Retailer.”

The announcement struck a chord with customers and locals alike. Nearly 90 people reacted on Facebook, with over 40 comments pouring in. One pet owner shared, “This has made me so sad. My dog loves coming in to see you guys! Where am I going to get all her cow and pig ears from now?” Another reminisced, “I’ve grown up with Park Pets. I’m 30 now and bring my own children in for dog treats and chicken food. How sad to see it closing.”
Others expressed the community’s loss at a time when Bath’s business sector has faced significant challenges. Almost 1,000 businesses in Bath and North East Somerset closed in 2022 alone. Earlier losses this year included the iconic Jolly’s department store and Kingdom of Sweets. Notably, Jolly’s has since been saved by Morleys Stores, offering a glimmer of hope amid tough times.
