On Monday, June 22, Bath experienced dramatic flash flooding after an intense thunderstorm swept through the area, causing rapid water level rises that left streets submerged and vehicles partially underwater. Ralph Allen Drive was particularly affected, with floodwaters reaching the doors of cars and prompting emergency response teams to intervene.
Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) reported that the hour-long downpour overwhelmed the drainage infrastructure, leading to multiple incidents across local roads. Among the challenges faced was a significant road closure on Ralph Allen Drive near the garden centre, where 40 meters of tarmac was damaged and required resurfacing. Unfortunately, no timeframe for repairs is currently available.
The heavy rainfall also caused pipes to burst, with Wessex Water scheduled to carry out necessary repairs once weather conditions improve. Residents were thanked for their vigilance in reporting issues amidst the chaotic conditions.

This severe thunderstorm followed a weather pattern that included gusty winds, lightning, hail, and torrential rain, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for the region. Looking ahead, the South West faces an escalating heatwave, with temperatures forecasted to reach up to 40°C. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued heat health alerts and a red weather warning, cautioning residents about significant health risks during the upcoming extreme heat.
